The Behaviour and Evolution Laboratory (BEL) of IISER Berhampur is looking to hire one Project 

Assistant for a SERB funded project. The project involves working with fruit flies in the laboratory.

Essential requirements

● B.Sc. in any field of Life Science / Environmental Science with 60% in aggregate in the graduations. 

● Experience in working in any Biology lab 
Preferred requirements: 

● M.Sc. in any field of Life Science / Environmental Science 

● Experience in handling Ecology experiments
 
● Experience in handling flies or other insects 
Tenure: 
The initial contract will be for six months. After the first six months, the contract can be renewed for another year. The maximum duration of the project is three years. However, renewal and continuation will depend on satisfactory performance. Upon unsatisfactory performance, a candidate can be terminated with notice of one month. 

Remuneration: ₹20,000/- per month consolidated. Hostel accommodation may be available, subject to availability of a room.




Expected duties: 
The work will involve maintenance of fruit fly and other insect populations in the lab. For this purpose, an assistant will have to do a variety of jobs including getting populations vials and cages ready, media preparation, regular day-to-day maintenance of the flies. In addition, the assistant will also be helping in setting up experiments in the lab and assist in data collection. Depending on the interest, he/she may also run independent experiments after consulting with the PI.
